Here are just a few of the frequently asked questions for Solar Energy.

Q.  How much energy will my solar PV system generate?

The performance of solar PV systems is impossible to predict with 100% certainty due to the variability in the amount of solar radiation from location to location and from year to year.  We will carry out a free survey and provide an indication based on such factors as position of roof and number of panels to be installed. This estimate of annual yield we will provide will be based upon the Government's standard assessment procedure for energy rating of buildings [SAP] and is given as guidance only.

Q.  How much does a Solar PV system cost?

Prices will vary depending on the size of system you have installed.  We only fit the highest quality panels to guarantee maximum output.  A typical domestic installation of 10 panels fitted to a standard roof will be in the region of £10,000 - £12,000  A free quotation will be provided once a survey has been carried out.

Q.  Will I qualify for the Government Feed In Tariff (FIT)?

As long as your system is installed by an MCS Approved installer you will qualify for the Feed-In Tariff.  See our Feed-In Tariff table for tax free rates payable to you, by the Government.

Q.  How do I receive the Feed-In Tariff payments?

Claiming the tariffs is easy, all you need to do is sign a "home generation" contract with an energy supplier, just ask them for a "home generation" sign up form.  Ring them as soon as you have an installation date.  You will be paid directly by your energy supplier.

Q.  Will I need planning permission?

For domestic properties planning permission is not normally required unless your property is a listed building or in a conservation area.  Industrial properties may require planning permission.  If you contact your local planning office they will be able to advise you.

Q.  Will my roof be suitable to have a PV Solar panel system installed?

Most roofs are suitable for PV Solar panel installations.  Our qualified surveyors will visit your property and carry out a free structural survey prior to providing you with a quotation.

Q.  What happens to any electricity I generate but do not use?

Any electricity you do not use will be automatically exported back to the Grid and you will be paid 3p per p/kWh.

Q.  Is the cost of scaffolding/roof access included in our quotation?

Our quotation will include the cost of accessing your roof.  Access methods will be discussed during or after we have carried out our free structural survey

Q.  What guarantees will I receive?

All our manufacturers are MCS accredited. Panels Warranty – 5 years,  Inverter Warranty – 5 years.  Panel Performance guarantee - 10 years with maximum loss of 10% & 25 years with maximum loss of 20% on Power Rating.

VA Solar Solutions also provides our own 5 year warranty on the installation works and offers an Insurance backed Guarantee through Renewable Energy Assurance Ltd (REAL).

Q. Does PV have to be installed on to a roof?

No. PV can easily be installed in a variety of places.  On to frames within your property’s boundaries, or onto out buildings which have suitable roofing.

Q.  How long will the installation take?

Installation normally takes 3-4 days.

Q. Can solar panels add value to my property?

A recent survey by MORI found people will pay up to £10,000 more for a home built which is environmentally friendly.  With ever increasing fuel prices a property with a solar panel will definitely be valued higher than a property without solar energy.

Q. Is there any ongoing maintenance needed?

Solar panels need very little maintenance.  The panels will need to be kept fairly clean but this is normally achieved by natural weathering.
